January Update

I don't know how well you can see the Cardinal in the tree. When I took Riley to school this morning I saw a pair of males and a pair of female Cardinals. I turned around to get a good picture and there was one left. ANyways! We are freezing here in Davenport. dave called me after he went to work and said it was -16 degrees F, didn't know what the wind

was. When I took Riley to school it was -12 F. I'm the wind chill is an unbelievable number. Today I am home with Cheyenne. She has a bad cold. She is currently in Riley's bed sleeping, so I'm taking some time to catch up blogging. I was hoping after the holidays we would slow down, we have some but I so want to sit around wrapped in a blanket wiht absolute quiet and nap on the couch, read a magazine uninterrupted and sipping hot chocolate. May be I'll get to do that if Cheyenne sleeps long enough. So... We went to see Dave's mom a couple a weeks ago. She was doing a lot better than we heard and thought. She returned to the nursing home the day before we went to see her. She knew all of us, sat on the side of her bed and visited, played with the kids and held Cheyenne. I saw great relief come over Dave has we visisted with her. She seems frail but better than we thought. Dave's family made it sound like she was on her way to heaven and maybe she was and the Lord had strengthened her. So we are thankful she is better. We have had some fun activities since the first of the year. Riley went to his first sleepover at someone house. His best friend Chase turned eight years old. When he was packing his sleeping bag he stopped nad looked at me and said, "Mom, I can't believe my best friend is 8!" "Wow he is so lucky". Well Riley will be eight in 4 months. Now that is hard for me to believe. Cheyenne on the other hand is almost completely potty trained, and will be three Feb. 18th. We have been working on "big girl" skills. She still wants to be the baby sometimes and other times she all girl. We went to Bald Eagle Days, the Camping, RV and Boat Show, Riley's Boy Scout Grand Prix, and have AWANA GRand Prix next week. Last night we had weigh-in and check-in for the cars. I got to run the practice runs. It was really cool to see all the cars, especailly the girls cars. So that's out brief update for now. Hope all of you are staying warm and taking your vitamin C.

Boy Scout Grand Prix

This past Tuesday was Boy Scout Troop 373 Grand Prix Race. Dave and Riley worked a couple of weeks in

preparation. They went through three different cars and finally had an awesome car. Riley won second place in "Design". He made it to the top eight but he didn't make it to the top four which raced for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. None the less we are very proud of Riley.

Dave's MOM

We got word Sunday night that Dave's mom Eunice was admitted to the hospital in Cedar Rapids with bleeding in her brain. She was really bad for a couple of days but e-mails from Marsha seem to indicate that she may go back to the nursing home but will require a lot more care. Dave talked to his mom Monday and for part of the conversation she did not know who he was. We are going Saturday to see her. We have prepared the kids that grandma might not seem like Grandma. Please pray for Eunice and for Dave, this has been very hard for him.

Happy New Year

Well New Year's was pretty uneventful for us. We planned a pajama party with the kids with appetizers, games and watching the ball drop. We got through the appetizers and then the kids crashed so they were in bed by 8:30 p.m. and I fell asleep shortly after that. He woke me up and told me to go to bed because i was snoring so loud he couldn't hear his movie. Well!! I went to bed and caught the last few seconds before the ball dropped and went to sleep without my News Years kiss. After five years of being alone on New Years while Dave worked we are finally home together and I fell asleep. I didn't have to work on New Years but, Dave did have one service call at Menards. A mouse got stuck in the door track and froze and Dave had to dig it out, much to the disgust of the female manager. Other wise we hung out at the home and enjoyed the rest. Dave made reubens and I made potato soup. Today we both went back to work. It was -3 when I went past the bank tower this morning. I started praying for the homeless people and those outside all the time when I noticed political supporters on the corners of Welcome Way, Kimberly and Brady. I couldn't believe they were out there at 7:15 a.m. jumping up and down waving their banners. i don't know if Iowa is primarily a Democratic state but that is about all I've heard is Hillary Clinton, Barack O'Bama, and John Edwards. Really, really, really sick of the political stuff. Anyways I don't support anyone enough to post myself on a corner at the crack of dawn when it is -3. Now i know where the acronym I.O.W.A - Idiots Out Wandering Around comes from, it''s because Iowa is the first state to caucus and there are idiots out wandering around for political purposes. Anyways, it wasn't much better when I came home it was 4 degrees, ooo!! A heat wave. So anyways the DeLay's will not be "caucusing" for anyone tomorrow, we are going to be snug as bug in a rug keeping warm.
I'm Suzette DeLay and I approve this message.

Christmas Dinner with Matt & Minnie

Saturday after Christmas Dave's half brother Matt and his wife Minnie came over for dinner and brought present foe the kids. Riley got a tranformer and Cheyenne got a popple that records phrases. She loves that and we have had lots of fun with that.
